Rangamati, April 5 (V7N) – A man reportedly killed his wife just one day after moving into a rented house under the guise of being a married couple in Rangamati. The incident took place in the Mohsin Colony area of the city’s Reserve Bazaar.
Late Friday night, local residents informed the police after they noticed a foul smell coming from a locked room. Upon breaking the lock, police discovered the lifeless body of a woman with a swollen abdomen inside the room.
According to several locals, a middle-aged woman and a man in his 30s, with a beard, had rented the room for Tk 3,000 on April 1. They introduced themselves as a married couple, claiming they were from Dureshchhari. The room was rented for Tk 3,000, with Tk 1,000 paid in cash upfront.
On April 2, residents noticed that the door to the room was locked from the outside. On the night of April 5, a strong odor began to emanate from the room, raising suspicion among locals. When they alerted the police, an investigation team led by Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana arrived at the scene and broke the lock to find the woman’s body.
The body was covered with cloth, and the woman’s identity was initially unknown. The police conducted a preliminary examination of the body and prepared an initial report. Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sahed Uddin confirmed the incident and stated that it appeared to be a case of murder. A murder case has been filed, and investigations are underway.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman’s neck was tied with a piece of cloth, her abdomen was unusually swollen, and the body had started to decompose, causing a strong stench. CCTV footage from April 1 shows the couple arriving in the area without any belongings and inspecting the rental room, which is being reviewed by the police. The investigation is also based on an ID card found at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the case, and further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
