Dhaka, June 25 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Army has apprehended a suspect identified as Md. Hanif in connection with the public harassment of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda. The arrest was made following an incident involving a group of unruly individuals who attacked and humiliated the former election chief in broad daylight. The suspect has since been handed over to the police.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), the incident occurred on the evening of June 22 in front of House No. 29, Road 1/A, Sector 5, Uttara, Dhaka. A group of six to seven individuals reportedly surrounded KM Nurul Huda, forcefully placed a garland of shoes around his neck, physically assaulted him, and live-streamed the entire episode on Facebook.
The ISPR statement further mentioned that the Uttara West Police Station had already been alerted to Huda’s presence due to an ongoing case against him. Although police officers arrived at the scene, the assault took place in their presence. Law enforcement later brought the situation under control and transferred the former CEC into the custody of the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Following the incident, the local military camp took swift action to identify and detain those responsible for inciting violence. Md. Hanif, one of the alleged perpetrators, was apprehended by the army and subsequently handed over to the police for further legal proceedings. Efforts are currently underway to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the incident.
The Bangladesh Army reiterated its firm commitment to maintaining peace and order across the country and stated that operations will continue to prevent the recurrence of such disruptive and unlawful acts.
