It is noteworthy that the Vhangara UP election, known for being a tense area, was scheduled to be held on December 26, 2021. On December 11 of that year, a clash occurred between supporters of the boat symbol candidate and then-Chairman Abu Said Khan and the supporters of two independent candidates, Sultan Mahmud Khan and Yasin Alam. The independent candidate Yasin Alam was killed in the clash.

Later, on June 15, 2022, Sultan Mahmud Khan, an independent candidate, defeated the boat symbol candidate and 25-year incumbent Chairman and Organizational Secretary of Pabna Sadar Upazila Awami League, Abu Said Khan, in the Vhangara Union Parishad election. In the upcoming Upazila Parishad election, Abu Said Khan is a candidate for the chairman position, while Sultan Mahmud was campaigning for the current chairman and candidate, Mosharraf Hossain.
