Mongla June 9,(V7N)- In the Mongla Upazila Parishad election, a supporter of the chairman candidate symbolized by a pineapple was sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment for obstructing and assaulting an Ansar member while he was performing his duties. The incident occurred on Sunday (June 9) at 11:30 AM during voting at the Mohasinia Alim Madrasa center in Ward 8 of the municipal town. The mobile court, led by Bagerhat District Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr. Atikus Samad, sentenced the accused, Shakil Sheikh (21).
 
According to the magistrate, Ansar member Motaleb Hossain was responsible for the security of voters at the Mohasinia Alim Madrasa center. Shakil Sheikh, son of the late Mostafa Sheikh from Shehalabunia area, tried to break through the line of men and women to enter the polling station. When Motaleb Hossain blocked him, Shakil pushed and assaulted him. The on-duty police officers then arrested Shakil from the scene.
 
Later, under Rule 76 (3)-(a) of the Upazila Parishad Election Rules, 2013, the detained individual confessed to his crime. Subsequently, the mobile court sentenced him to six months of rigorous imprisonment and fined him 500 taka. If he fails to pay the fine, he will face an additional 15 days of imprisonment, as stated by Judge Dr. Md. Atikus Samad.
 
Shakil was later handed over to Mongla police station to be sent to Bagerhat District Jail.
