Rangamati, June 28 (V7N)- For the first time, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted an investigation into four corruption cases filed against the Rangamati District Council using drone technology.

On Thursday, from morning till afternoon, drones were flown over Subalong, Bhushanchhara, and Thegamukh areas in Barkal Upazila for the investigation, as confirmed by a senior official from the ACC's Integrated District Office in Rangamati through a phone call on Thursday night. According to information from the ACC office, four cases were filed against the Rangamati District Council on the same day for embezzlement through non-existent fake projects.

ACC Assistant Director Ahmad Farhad Hossain himself filed these four cases at the ACC's Integrated District Office in Rangamati. These cases name nine individuals as defendants, including members of the Rangamati District Council, the executive engineer, assistant engineer, sub-assistant engineer, contractors, UP chairman, and former executive engineer.

The accused in these cases include Rangamati District Council members Sabir Kumar Chakma, executive engineer Biral Barua, assistant engineer Jyotirmoy Chakma, sub-assistant engineer Rigan Chakma, Bhushanchhara Union Parishad Chairman Mamunur Rashid, former executive engineer of Rangamati District Council (currently serving in Sylhet LGED) Kazi Abdus Samad, proprietor of Messrs Amolendu Chakma Amolendu Chakma, proprietor of Messrs Nangching Enterprise Chinghen Rakhain, and proprietor of Messrs Samriddhi Enterprise Milon Talukdar.

The details of the cases were confirmed by the deputy director of the ACC's Integrated District Office in Rangamati.

According to information from the ACC, specific allegations include the embezzlement of Tk 858,853 through a fish dam and concrete irrigation drain project on Kamini Chakma's land in Bhushanchhara Union of Barkal, Tk 651,000 through a deep tube well installation project for drinking water management in Subalong Bazaar, Tk 837,000 through a project to construct a community center and concrete stairs in Subalong Union, and Tk 939,953 through a fake road renovation project from the fish dam in Purba Erabunia, Barkal to Harun Tila via Ahad's house. These acts were allegedly carried out through criminal misconduct and breach of trust, punishable under Sections 409/109 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, as mentioned in the case statements.

A senior official from the ACC's Integrated District Office in Rangamati confirmed the truth of the above information over the phone on Thursday night, stating that after finding initial credibility within a 75 working day period, cases were filed with approval from higher authorities. As part of the investigation, drones were used for the first time to conduct an on-site investigation.

The responsible official said, "We have made significant progress in the investigation. After compiling all the information and evidence, the next step will be to file charge sheets."
