Oct 01, V7N- The Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council observed a three-hour strike across hospitals and nursing educational institutions, including Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital, demanding reforms in nursing administration. The protest began on Tuesday, October 1, at around 9 a.m. with a rally near the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College.

Protesters raised slogans such as "My demand is only one," "We want nurses in nursing administration," "Our movement is to appoint qualified nurses," and "We will provide qualified nurses for all posts in BNMC." The central demand of the strike was the appointment of qualified nurses to administrative positions, replacing non-nursing personnel in such roles.

Speakers at the rally emphasized that nurses are highly educated and capable of handling administrative responsibilities. They argued that since 2016, they have faced discrimination in the sector, which is unjust. They expressed the desire to work independently and no longer under non-nursing leadership.

The protesters also called for the introduction of a BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) exam specifically for nurses, allowing for more structured career advancement. They warned that if their demands are not met, further and stricter agitation would follow.

While the protest caused some disruption, measures were taken to ensure that patient care at hospitals was minimally affected. Doctors and medical staff continued to provide services to patients during the protest.
