Mongla, Oct 08 2024 (V7N) — In an unexpected gesture of solidarity, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami visited temples and exchanged views with the local Hindu community in Mongla on the occasion of the Autumn Durga Festival. The visit took place on Monday evening, led by Advocate Maulana Sheikh A. Wadud , Naib Amir of Bagerhat District Jamaat-e-Islami.

Wadud was accompanied by other senior Jamaat leaders, including Upazila Jamaat Amir Professor Kohinur Sardar , Upazila Secretary Abu Hanif , Sramik Kalyan Federation President Nashir Uddin , Deputy General Secretary Yunus Ali , and Organizing Secretary Mufti Hafizur Rahman . The delegation met with the leaders of the puja celebration committee and discussed the importance of communal harmony and mutual respect during the festivities.

During the exchange of views, Maulana Sheikh A. Wadud assured the Hindu community of Jamaat-e-Islami's commitment to ensuring their safety and security. He emphasized that in the future, Jamaat-e-Islami would take responsibility for safeguarding temples during religious festivals, without the need for additional protection from police or security forces like Ansar. "Since August 5, we have committed ourselves to the protection of the lives and property of minority communities. Jamaat leaders and workers will ensure security in temples during the upcoming puja celebrations," Wadud said.

Earlier in the day, the Jamaat delegation visited several temples in the upazila and engaged with the Hindu community, fostering dialogue and ensuring their support for maintaining peace and communal harmony during the festival season.

The visit marks an important step towards building trust between different religious communities in the region, especially as tensions often rise during sensitive periods like religious festivals. Jamaat-e-Islami’s leaders reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the Durga Puja festivities proceed peacefully and inclusively.
