Barguna, Oct 19, V7N- Dengue cases are rising significantly in Barguna, with the general hospital admitting an average of 14 to 15 patients daily. Last year, Barguna General Hospital had the highest number of dengue patients in the Barisal division, and this year appears to be following a similar trend.

Despite the hospital's capacity of 250 beds, many patients are forced to sleep on the floor due to a shortage of available beds, leading to unsanitary conditions. Families have raised concerns about the care provided by nursing staff, reporting that nurses are often unavailable even after repeated calls for assistance.

In addition to dengue, the hospital is also seeing a surge in pediatric cases, with many children admitted for illnesses such as pneumonia, coughs, infections, and dengue. The shortage of doctors has further complicated the situation, causing patients to endure long waits for treatment.

Dr. A. K. M. Nazmul Ahsan, the hospital supervisor, acknowledged the challenges in providing adequate care amid the increasing patient load. He noted that while the number of dengue cases is rising alarmingly, the hospital does have sufficient medical supplies to handle the situation. Fortunately, no dengue-related deaths have been reported thus far.

Patients and their relatives have expressed frustration over the conditions at the hospital, with reports of garbage scattered on the floors and inadequate space for resting. One family member shared their experience of having to sleep on the floor for two days without seeing any improvement in their loved one's condition, emphasizing the negative impact of the hospital environment on the health of children and other patients.

The combination of high patient volumes and insufficient staffing is placing immense pressure on the healthcare system in Barguna, highlighting an urgent need for improved resources and support.
