RAJSHAHI NOV 11, V7N- The first meeting of the Rajshahi Divisional Drug Control and Awareness Committee aimed at increasing public awareness and reducing drug abuse took place today, November 11, at the conference hall of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office. The meeting was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir.

During the meeting, attendees discussed strategies to not only reduce the supply of drugs but also diminish demand through educational efforts and community outreach. They emphasized increasing anti-drug operations, referring early-stage drug users (e.g., those caught using once or twice) to probation officers from the Social Services Department, and promoting joint initiatives to foster a social resistance against drugs.

In his speech, the Divisional Commissioner mentioned that drug testing is now mandatory for all government job candidates, barring opportunities for those involved in drug use.

He also instructed officials of the Department of Narcotics Control to verify sales and stock information from licensed alcohol vendors and to monitor whether registered drinkers were buying alcohol on behalf of others.

Deputy commissioners from the eight districts of Rajshahi Division, along with members of the Divisional Drug Control and Awareness Committee, were present at the meeting.
