Jhalakhati, NOV 14, V7N- In an effort to stabilize commodity prices and ensure direct access to fresh produce, a farmers' market was inaugurated in Kathalia, Jhalakathi, under the theme "Relief for Consumers through Farmers' Produce." The market was officially opened on Thursday (November 14) at the sandy field adjacent to the Sadar Union Parishad by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Ruhul Amin.
The event was attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Zahidul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sanjay Das, Upazila Agriculture Officer Imran Bin Islam, Rupali Bank Manager Md. Naimur Rahman, and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers Md. Hasibur Rahman and Md. Zahidul Islam, along with other officials and community members. The initiative was jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Upazila Agriculture Office.
Farmers can now sell their freshly harvested, pesticide-free vegetables and fruits directly to consumers at fair prices without involving middlemen or lease costs. Consumers are also assured of fresh, unadulterated produce at the market.
UNO Md. Zahidul Islam highlighted that this initiative was launched under the direction of the District Commissioner to provide relief to consumers amid rising commodity prices. Additionally, a "relief market" has been established to support underprivileged individuals.
