Brahmanbaria, Dec 04 (V7N) — Operations at Payra Sea Port in Patuakhali and Akhaura Land Port in Brahmanbaria remain normal, with import-export activities, goods clearance, and passenger movements continuing smoothly. However, several border ports in Sylhet face disruptions due to protests across the border.
At Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost, passenger movement and trade activities are running without interruptions. Khairul Alam, in charge of immigration police at the checkpost, confirmed that the situation has been normal since Wednesday morning. Several Bangladeshi nationals returned home from India, while 10–12 trucks carrying fish are awaiting clearance, with 3–4 already crossing into India.
In Payra Sea Port, the country’s third-largest seaport, Deputy Director of Traffic Azizur Rahman reported uninterrupted operations, including coal unloading. Indonesian coal carrier MV YM Advance, which brought 60,500 metric tons of coal in December, is currently unloading the remaining 17,500 metric tons at the BCPCL jetty. Previously, another Indonesian vessel, Pack Elcor, delivered an equal amount of coal on November 24 and is now awaiting departure after unloading its cargo.
However, a different scenario unfolded in Sylhet, where operations at Jokiganj, Sutarkandi, and Tamabil border ports remain suspended due to protests on the Indian side. Import-export activities at these ports have come to a halt, creating uncertainty for traders and transporters.
While Payra and Akhaura ports continue to operate seamlessly, disruptions in Sylhet highlight the challenges of cross-border trade in the region.
