Officials and local leaders pay floral tributes at the Central Shaheed Minar and other memorials in Rangamati to honor the fallen heroes of the Liberation War on Victory Day.
Rangamati, Dec 17, (V7N) — The people of Rangamati are observing the historic Victory Day with due dignity, marking the proud moment of the Bengali nation's victory. On Monday, the day began with the sound of 31 gunshots at sunrise, paying tribute to the martyred freedom fighters at the Central Shaheed Minar of Rangamati. The floral tribute ceremony commenced at 6:30 AM, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati, Md. Habib Ullah, to honor the fallen heroes of the Liberation War.
Following this, the Chairman of the Rangamati District Council, agricultural expert Kajol Talukdar, Superintendent of Police Dr. Farhad Hossain, Vice-Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, Ripon Chakma, Municipal Administrator Nasreen Sultana, and representatives from various administrative sectors, along with Rangamati Press Club leaders, laid wreaths at the monument to pay their respects.
Afterward, leaders from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliated organizations, Jamaat-e-Islami, LDP, and other political and social groups, also paid their tributes by laying floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, followed by an oath-taking ceremony.
The tributes continued at other memorials, including the Memorial at the opposite side of the Shaheed Minar, the memorials of Shaheed M. Abdul Ali and Shaheed Abdus Shukur. The national flag was raised at sunrise, and floral tributes were paid at the grave of Bir Shreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf in Buri Ghat of Naniarchar upazila.
Meanwhile, at 8 AM, the national flag was hoisted at the Rangamati Circuit House in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Md. Habib Ullah, Superintendent of Police Dr. Farhad Hossain, and other administrative officials.
This year, a three-day Victory Fair has been organized at the Rangamati Gymnasium ground to mark the occasion. The fair is open from 9 AM until 8 PM each day, featuring a variety of events including honoring freedom fighters and the families of martyrs, discussion sessions, awards ceremonies, and cultural performances. A sports event will be held at the Mari Stadium at 3 PM, followed by a women's sports event at the same venue.
At 6 PM, several public locations in Rangamati will screen films and documentaries based on the Liberation War. Special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, hospitals, jails, orphanages, and children's homes. Additionally, quality food will be served at these institutions.
Tourist spots and recreational areas in the region will be open to children free of charge from morning until evening, ensuring that the day is observed in a spirit of both reflection and celebration.
