Rajshahi, Dec 17 (V7N)- After a seven-hour suspension, Dhaka-bound bus services from Rajshahi resumed at 8 pm on Monday (December 16). The disruption began at 1 pm when bus workers halted services on all routes from Rajshahi, protesting an attack on bus drivers and workers by CNG-powered autorickshaw workers in Tanore, Rajshahi.
The unrest was triggered after five bus workers sustained injuries in the attack. In response, the bus workers stopped operations and staged a demonstration at Rajshahi's Shiroil Bus Terminal, blocking roads with buses parked haphazardly.
Acting General Secretary of the Rajshahi Motor Workers Union, Rafiqul Islam Pakhi, stated that a meeting with administration officials and law enforcement agencies in the evening led to the resolution of the issue. The authorities assured the workers that the accused would be arrested by night, and a case was filed regarding the incident. Following this assurance, bus services on all routes, including Dhaka-bound routes, resumed.
The situation was brought under control after police and army personnel intervened to disperse the protest and restore order at the bus terminal.
