Tangail, Feb 21 (V7N) – A case has been filed at Mirzapur Police Station in Tangail three days after a bus robbery and the sexual assault of female passengers on a Dhaka-Rajshahi-bound bus.

The case (No. 17, Section - Women and Children Abuse) was filed by bus passenger Omar Ali, a resident of Baraigram Upazila in Natore, on Friday morning (February 21). The case names eight to nine unidentified individuals as accused.

Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mosharraf Hossain confirmed that Omar Ali personally appeared at the police station at 10:00 AM to file the complaint.

Incident Timeline

The robbery took place on Monday night (February 17) aboard a Unique Road Royals bus of "Amri Travels", traveling from Dhaka to Rajshahi.

11:00 PM – The bus departed from Gabtoli, Dhaka.

12:35 AM – The robbers started looting the passengers.

For three hours, they carried out the robbery while reportedly assaulting female passengers.

3:52 AM – The robbers got off at the same location after completing the robbery.

Following the robbery, the driver, assistant, and supervisor delayed the journey, claiming the bus had no fuel. After passenger pressure, they resumed the trip to Rajshahi.

Upon reaching Mirzapur Police Station in Tangail, passengers attempted to file a case, but police allegedly turned them away, stating that the OC was not present. The bus was later taken to Baraigram Police Station in Natore at 11:00 AM on Tuesday (February 18).

The police arrested:

1. Bablu Islam (35) – Bus Driver

2. Sumon Islam (35) – Driver’s Assistant

3. Mahbub Alam (38) – Supervisor

However, all three were granted bail by the Baraigram Administrative Court on Wednesday evening (February 19) after being produced in court by SI Shariful Islam.

Authorities have not yet identified or arrested the main perpetrators of the robbery and assault. Meanwhile, concerns are rising over the delayed police response and the bail of key suspects connected to the case.
