Rangamati, Mar 4 (V7N) – The body of a 30-year-old youth named Saddam has been recovered from Kaptai Lake in Longadu, Rangamati. Local police discovered the body with a sack tied around his neck, after receiving a report about a dead body in the area on Monday, March 3, in the afternoon.
According to local sources, Saddam was the son of Hanif and Momtaz, a couple residing in Ward 7 of Longadu’s Jharna Tila. On that day, like any other, Saddam had gone out in the morning to fish. His family members noticed his boat floating in the lake around midday.
Saddam's younger brother, Mostafiz, provided details of the incident. He mentioned, “My brother went out early in the morning to fish. Later in the afternoon, when my older brother was returning home with his catch, we noticed my middle brother’s boat floating in the middle of the river. We then asked my mother where Saddam was. After that, my father and I went to the river and found the boat anchored in the middle of a canal.”
Mostafiz further explained that they suspected something was wrong and, with the help of locals, they cast a net and searched the area with oxygen support. Eventually, they discovered Saddam’s lifeless body, with a sack tied around his waist and neck.
When asked about the potential cause of the incident, Mostafiz shared that his brother had recently gone through a divorce with his wife. Since then, he had been mentally distressed, and the family suspected it could have been suicide. However, they are waiting for the autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death.
Attempts to reach the Officer-in-Charge of Longadu Police Station, OC Ferdous Wahid, for a comment were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls.
