Pabna, Mar 08 (V7N) - Four days after an assault on four Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including the Nayeb-e-Amir of Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, within the Sujanagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) room in Pabna, a case has been registered against five local BNP leaders. Police have apprehended one of the accused.
The case was filed on Friday night by Md. Waliullah Biswas, a Jamaat official, naming Mujibur Rahman Khan, Manik Hossain Khan, Babu Kha, Arif Sheikh, and Abdul Based Banshi Sheikh as the accused. Arif Sheikh has been arrested.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the Jamaat leaders were attacked by a group of 30-40 BNP activists, led by the named individuals, while waiting in the UNO's office. The attack, involving physical assault, followed a confrontation regarding sand extraction and the presence of the Jamaat leaders in the office.
Sujanagar Police Station OC Mojibur Rahman confirmed the case and arrest, stating that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. Sujanagar Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor KM Hesab Uddin expressed dissatisfaction with the initial delay in filing the case and accused the police of failing to arrest key suspects. He further alleged that the frequent changes of OCs in the area are due to pressure from these individuals.
