Jhalakathi, Mar 09 (V7N) -  An attempted robbery by detonating a bomb in Jhalakathi town was foiled by locals during Iftar on Sunday evening. The robbers fled after being confronted by an angry crowd, leaving behind chaos in the Daktarpatti Road area, a well-known goldsmith’s lane in the city.

According to witnesses, a pickup truck arrived in the Daktarpatti area just as people were breaking their fast. The suspects attempted to detonate an explosive, but shop owners and locals quickly raised the alarm. In response, the robbers threw bombs from the vehicle before fleeing towards Barisal through the Fire Service intersection.

Following the failed robbery attempt, panic spread across the area, leading to the immediate closure of all gold shops and other businesses in Daktarpatti. Law enforcement agencies swiftly arrived at the scene and took control of the situation.

Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident, stating:
"After Iftar, some miscreants attempted to commit robbery using an improvised explosive device, possibly a cocktail bomb. However, they failed and fled the scene. We are actively working to identify and arrest those responsible."

Authorities have launched an intensive investigation, analyzing CCTV footage from surrounding areas and gathering witness testimonies. Security measures have also been increased in gold markets and high-risk areas to prevent future incidents.
