PABNA, March 27, (V7N) – A five-year-old girl and her grandfather were tragically killed after being struck by a train engine while watching passing trains in Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna, on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred in the Baghil area of Pakshi Union, adjacent to the two-story bridge, casting a wave of grief over the villages of Uttar Baghil and Char-Mirkamari.

According to family members and eyewitnesses, little Muntahar (5) had come to visit her grandfather, Babul Sardar (55), during Eid celebrations. The two went for a walk along the railway tracks to fulfill the child's desire to watch the train up close.

As a train engine approached from Ishwardi Junction Station, Muntahar excitedly ran onto the tracks. In an attempt to save his granddaughter, Babul Sardar rushed to her side, but both were struck by the speeding locomotive.

Onlookers rushed to the scene and found Babul Sardar dead on the spot. Muntahar, severely injured, was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries on the way.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Ziaur Rahman of Ishwardi Railway Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies were handed over to the family following a written request. A case of unnatural death has been filed.

The tragedy has left the community shocked and mourning, serving as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by railway tracks, especially for children.
