Habiganj, Mar 30 (V7N)– A drug dealer, Anwar Hossain Nonai, has been arrested in Madhabpur, Habiganj, with 50 kilograms of marijuana following a raid conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 9.

"Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 9 Shayestaganj conducted a raid in Madhabpur, Habiganj and arrested a drug dealer named Anwar Hossain Nonai with 50 kg of marijuana," a RAB spokesperson confirmed.

Nonai was arrested in Gandhabpur village of Madhabpur upazila. He is the son of Zaher Mia and a resident of the same village.

"Anwar Hossain Nonai is the son of Zaher Mia of Gandhabpur village in the upazila," a local police report stated.

The arrest occurred during a late-night operation on Saturday, March 30, following a tip-off about marijuana smuggling.

"Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 9's media officer, Additional Superintendent of Police KM Shahidul Islam Sohag, said that Nonai was arrested with marijuana from Gandhabpur village of the upazila at 11:30 pm on Saturday. He learned from a confidential source that a consignment of marijuana would be smuggled from Gandhabpur village of Dharmaghar union. Upon receiving such information, an operation team from Shayestaganj of RAB 9 conducted a raid in Gandhabpur village on Saturday night and arrested Anwar Hossain Nonai with 50 kg of marijuana," Additional Superintendent of Police KM Shahidul Islam Sohag reported.

Following his arrest, Nonai was handed over to the Habiganj Judicial Court and subsequently sent to Habiganj Jail.

"Madhabpur police sent him to Habiganj jail on Sunday (March 30) afternoon. Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said that RAB has filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act against Nanai of Madhabpur Police Station as the plaintiff. He was handed over to the Habiganj Judicial Court on Sunday afternoon in the RAB case, and was sent to Habiganj Jail on the court's orders," Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed.
