"Jhalakathi District BNP has issued a show cause notice to Akhtar Hossain Nizam Mirbahor, General Secretary of Kantalia Upazila BNP of Jhalakathi," a statement from the District BNP confirmed.
The notice, dated Saturday, April 5th, was signed by District BNP Convener Advocate Md. Syed Hossain and Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain. Mirbahor has been given three working days to provide a written explanation as to why organizational action should not be taken against him.
"The order was issued in a letter signed by District BNP Convener Advocate Md. Syed Hossain and Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain on Saturday (April 5). It directed the District BNP to submit a written reply within the next 3 working days as to why organizational action should not be taken against him for violating party discipline and tarnishing the party's image," the notice stated.
The show cause letter details several serious allegations against Mirbahor. Firstly, it accuses him of engaging in extortion, demanding 500,000 Taka from Md. Fazle Khoda (Sumon Khalifa), the former General Secretary of Amua Union Jubo Dal. The letter claims that when the demanded money was not received, Mirbahor allegedly had Khoda implicated in a false case.
"The letter states that you (Akhtar Hossain Nizam Mirbahor) are accused of being involved in activities against party discipline and extortion while holding the responsible position of General Secretary of Kantalia Upazila BNP... You demanded extortion of 500000 (five lakh) taka from that persecuted leader, Mr. Md. Fazle Khoda (Sumon Khalifa), former General Secretary of Amua Union Jubo Dal of Kantalia Upazila No. 3. The victim, Mr. Md. Fazle Khoda (Sumon Khalifa), has filed a written complaint on December 4, 2024, to the acting chairman of the party, Mr. Tarique Rahman, stating that he was made an accused in case No. 8 along with Awami Dosards... on the basis that he did not receive the demanded money," the show cause letter outlined.
Secondly, the notice refers to a recently वायरल audio clip allegedly featuring Mirbahor instructing local BNP leaders and activists to support Golam Kibria Sikder, a former President of the Kathalia Upazila Awami League, in the 2024 Upazila elections. This is seen as a direct violation of party discipline.
"In addition to the said complaint, an audio clip of yours has recently gone viral on social media. In the audio clip, you participated in election activities on behalf of the Upazila Chairman candidate, former President of the Kathalia Upazila Awami League, Golam Kibria Sikder, in the one-sided Upazila elections held in 2024 under the fallen Hasina, and instructed the leaders and activists of the local BNP and allied organizations to participate in election activities and vote on behalf of Golam Kibria Sikder," the letter further stated.
The District BNP also alleges that Mirbahor orchestrated the implication of the Jubo Dal leader in a case due to the latter's potential candidacy against him in upcoming Union Parishad elections. The notice emphasizes that Mirbahor's controversial actions have received significant negative attention in local and national media, severely damaging the BNP's reputation.
"It is revealed that you have brought together Awami League associates and made him an accused in a case to make him a member of the Awami League because you did not receive the money you demanded from Jubo Dal leader Md. Fazle Khoda (Sumon Khalifa) and he announced that he would be your rival candidate for the post of chairman in the upcoming Union Parishad elections in Amua Union. Recently, your various controversial activities have been the subject of news in local and national newspapers and even due to extensive publicity and publication through electronic media including social media, the image of the party has been severely damaged and is being severely damaged," the notice elaborated.
The Jhalakathi District BNP has demanded a written response from Nizam Mirbahor within three working days to explain his actions and avoid potential organizational penalties.
