Godagari, Rajshahi, May 5 (V7N) - Public life around Swadhin Chattar and Daing Para in Godagari Sadar has become dreary and difficult due to ongoing and poorly managed renovation work. The demolition of the Swadhin Chattar and the old divider in Daing Para, intended to enhance the area's beauty, has instead created a dusty environment due to the slow pace of work and alleged negligence by the contractors.
Pedestrians and local business owners are facing significant hardship as a result of the uncoordinated renovation. Broken dividers and sand deposited on the highway, meant for beautification, are now sources of pervasive dust. The lack of regular water spraying to suppress the dust is exacerbating the problem, causing distress to public transport passengers whose clothes and hair are constantly coated in dust. Shops lining the road, including food stalls, hotels, and restaurants, are covered in layers of dust and sand, which has also settled on surrounding buildings. Those most affected include traffic police on duty, van and rickshaw drivers, as well as public transport drivers and passengers.
The dust pollution has led to a noticeable increase in air pollution levels, with dust and sand particles constantly airborne. Pedestrians are finding it exhausting to walk along the roads, with dust entering their nose, mouth, and eyes, causing breathing difficulties. Public life has become miserable, and there are growing concerns about an increase in diseases and pests in the polluted environment.
Rajib, a local drug dealer, described the situation, stating that driving on the road has become hazardous due to poor visibility caused by the dust, and even breathing has become a struggle.
