Rajshahi, May 08 (V7N) – Development and beautification work is underway at the traditional Paba Central Eidgah Maidan in the Baya area of Nowhata Municipality, Paba Upazila, Rajshahi. This Eidgah has long served as a significant gathering place for people of all backgrounds in the region to offer congregational Eid prayers.
The Paba Central Eidgah, established in 1964 through a donation of 22 kathas of land by the late Amir Hossain Sarkar, is undergoing continuous transformation through renovation efforts. The spacious grounds, high archways, and modern visual craftsmanship are enhancing its appeal, making it a symbol of religious solemnity that attracts devotees from various locations.
Local Muslims recount that prominent figures have served on the Eidgah committee since its inception. While development was initially slow, the Eidgah is now experiencing significant changes. After 61 years, infrastructure including a boundary wall is being constructed with local funding. Recognizing the needs of the community, the land donor group provided additional land at half the market price, with 26 kathas purchased for 2 crore 30 lakh taka. Md. Wadud Hasan Pintu, son of the late Amir Hossain Sarkar, has also donated one katha of land, bringing the total land area of the Eidgah to approximately 50 kathas.
The beautification project is being spearheaded by Alhaj Md. Abdur Razzak, the president of the Eidgah committee, a prominent social worker and businessman. A 40-member committee oversees the development work with the broad support of the local community.
According to the Eidgah Committee, the Eidgah measures approximately 130 feet in width and 317 feet in length. Its main arch stands at 30 feet tall and is adorned with three domes. The 12-foot wide entrance is flanked by four minarets. A boundary wall encloses the grounds, which can accommodate 12,000 worshippers at a time. Lighting on the dome and boundary wall will illuminate the Eidgah after evening. Facilities such as store rooms, toilets, and ablution areas are being established for worshippers. Lata Bahar trees have been planted within the grounds to provide shade during prayers, eventually covering iron rods placed above. The construction incorporates bricks, rods, cement, sand, ceramic tiles, laser-cut grills, and steel bars, with design elements reflecting various traditional architectural styles. The renovated Eidgah grounds are becoming a distinctive landmark due to their modern design and well-planned infrastructure.
Md. Wadud Hasan Pintu emphasized that the Paba Central Eidgah is a public space and expressed his commitment to working together with the community for its development and the betterment of society. He urged all locals to provide their full cooperation for the ongoing development work.
Eidgah Committee President Md. Abdur Razzak stated that devotees from around 13 neighborhoods gather at the Poba Central Eidgah Ground for Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, and funeral prayers. He highlighted the necessity of expanding the space for future generations and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the local community, appealing for continued cooperation in land purchase and infrastructure development.
