Bagerhat, Sept 28 (V7N) – Devotees thronged temples across Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat on Sunday as the Hindu community celebrated the opening day of the Durga Puja festival with the ritual of Shasthi. Drums, traditional instruments, and festive decorations filled 77 temples across the area with vibrant sounds and colors.
On the first day of the celebrations, district BNP leader and Morelganj-Sharankhola constituency nomination aspirant Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon visited several temples, including the Baulpur Purba Para Sarbojanin Durga Temple in Hoglapasha Union, Daibagnyahat, and temples in Teligati Union.
He was accompanied by Asaduzzaman Milon, General Secretary of the Municipal BNP; Prabhashak Rasel Al Islam, Joint General Secretary of the Upazila BNP; former Union Chairman Ataur Rahman; Bagerhat District Volunteer BNP Joint Convener Md. Saiful Islam Sohag; BNP leader Kheyafat Hossain Khosru; along with Hindu community leaders such as Shantanu Somaddar, General Secretary of the Baulpur Sarbojanin Durga Temple, and Dipankar Chakraborty.
Speaking during his visit, Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon emphasized communal harmony, stating, “Religion belongs to individuals, but the country belongs to everyone. In line with the directives of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, we are extending financial and overall support to ensure a successful Durga Puja for the Hindu community. Party workers are volunteering to help maintain security, and any attempt to create disorder during the festival will be strictly resisted.”
