Satkhira, Sep 30 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui has said that BGB will continue to be a symbol of border security and public trust.

He made the remarks on Monday morning after inaugurating a drinking water project at Koikhali SR High School grounds in Shyamnagar Upazila around 10:30 am. The Tk 5.6 million project will enable about 1,000 families to collect clean drinking water daily.

“The main crisis for the coastal people is access to safe water. Until now, they had to rely on pond and rainwater,” the BGB chief said, noting that the initiative was undertaken in response to local demands. “This is a humanitarian project of BGB,” he added.

On the issue of security, Maj. Gen. Siddiqui said operations against forest robbers in the Sundarbans have been stepped up in coordination with the Coast Guard. He urged locals to share specific information to aid in controlling criminal groups.

After the inauguration, BGB also arranged food and medical services for over 100 people. Senior officials including BGB Additional Director General Syed Nowfel Mahmud, senior officers Sohrab Hossain Bhuiyan, Shariful Islam, Lt. Col. Shahriar Rajib (Commander, 17 BGB), SP Mohammad Monirul Islam, and local administration representatives were present.
