Jhalokathi, Oct 2 (V7N) – Residents of Madhyauttampur in Rajapur upazila held a human chain and symbolic protest demanding the paving of an approximately 2.5-kilometer mud road connecting Taltala Bazaar to Talukdar Bari, Chollish Kahania Mridha Bari, and Pyada Bari School on Thursday afternoon.

Despite ongoing rainfall, locals expressed their frustration by planting saplings along the road as part of the symbolic demonstration.

Speakers at the protest included Saidul Islam, Bellal Hossain, Afzal Hossain from Chollish Kahania village, and Russel, Jalil Mridha, Suman, and Khalilur Rahman Mridha from Uttampur village. They highlighted that the road has remained unpaved for many years and becomes almost unusable during the monsoon season due to mud and waterlogging.

The protestors emphasized that the poor condition of the road severely affects students of at least six educational institutions, including Chollish Kahania Government Primary School, Malek College, Girls’ School, and Nurani Madrasas. Over 2,000 residents of the two villages, as well as patients traveling for medical care, face daily hardships. They urged the authorities to intervene immediately and pave the road to ensure safe and convenient travel.

Authorities have yet to respond to the demands of the residents.
