Ishwardi, Dec 03 (V7N) - The mother dog, known as Tom, had been in visible distress since the tragic loss of her eight puppies earlier this week in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila. Witnesses said she had been wandering around the Upazila Parishad compound without food, frantically searching for her missing offspring. Her swollen mammary glands, still producing milk, added to her physical pain and emotional distress.

On Wednesday afternoon, in an effort to comfort the grieving dog, two newborn puppies from another litter were brought to her on the advice of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). The initiative was carried out by Shahriar Amit, spokesperson for the local social organization Ishwardiyan, along with several volunteers. The puppies were placed beside Tom in the compound, and they immediately began nursing. Observers said Tom accepted the pups instantly, showing signs of relief and affection.

UNO Md Moniruzzaman, several government employees, and local volunteers were present during the handover. They reported that Tom’s behavior changed noticeably the moment the puppies were introduced.

Speaking about the decision, Ishwardiyan spokesperson Shahriar Amit said he had been deeply moved by the dog’s suffering. He explained that Tom’s swollen chest and constant searching had made the situation heartbreaking, prompting him to consult with the UNO. After receiving approval, he brought two puppies from his own dog’s litter to help alleviate Tom’s grief and restore some sense of motherhood.

UNO Md Moniruzzaman later said that when Tom appeared outside his office on Tuesday, her distressed condition was deeply troubling. Seeing her searching the entire compound for her lost puppies motivated him to suggest arranging foster pups for her. He added that watching Tom immediately embrace the two new puppies brought visible relief not only to the dog but also to everyone present.

The emotional moment has drawn widespread attention online and in the community, with many praising the compassionate effort to help the grieving animal.
