Rangamati, Dec 13 (V7N) – Students and residents in Rangamati held a protest rally and street gathering late Friday night, condemning the violent attack on activist Osman Hadi, known for his outspoken stance against regional dominance and his advocacy for justice. The demonstration took place in the Banarupa area of the hill town shortly after the Isha prayer.
Protesters, joined by local worshippers, marched under the banner of “Students and Citizens.” The rally began in front of the Banarupa Jame Mosque before moving through the Kathaltoli Road, the Court Building area along the Rangamati–Chattogram highway, and concluding at the Banarupa petrol pump, where a street gathering was held.
Speakers at the gathering included community members and students such as Kamal Uddin, Abdus Salam, Rakib Hasan, Md. Imam Hossain Imu, Md. Sharif, Shahidul Islam, Robiul Islam, Saiban, and Mizanur Rahman. They described the attack on Hadi as an assault not just on an individual but on the broader struggle for justice and accountability.
Participants alleged that attempts were being made to silence patriotic and principled voices through targeted violence. They warned that any conspiracy to suppress dissent would ultimately fail. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack and called for exemplary punishment. They announced that more intense demonstrations would follow if authorities failed to take swift action.
Local sources said security has been tightened in several areas amid heightened tensions, and law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident.
