Two Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were injured in a gunfire exchange with smugglers in Teknaf. The incident occurred on June 4 at around 10 pm, during an anti-smuggling naval patrol by Nazirpara BOP under Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) on the Naf River in Bangladesh. The BGB patrol encountered a boat, and armed smugglers onboard opened fire. In response, the BGB patrol fired back to protect government assets and their lives.
The two BGB members were seriously injured by the gunfire from the Myanmar-based armed smuggling gang. Following the exchange, the smugglers retreated across the Naf River into Myanmar under the cover of darkness.
The injured BGB personnel are currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Ramu Cantonment. Teknaf 2 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the incident.
