Barisal University (BU) students disrupted the Dhaka-Barisal Highway near the main campus gate on Sunday, demanding the elimination of the quota system in government jobs, causing a 5km traffic jam on both sides.

The protest began with a procession on campus before students took to the highway around noon. They rallied more students from four dormitories to join the anti-quota movement, which significantly disrupted traffic. The students chanted slogans and vowed to continue their protest until their demands were met.

In a related demonstration, BM College students set up barricades near the central bus terminal in the afternoon, displaying placards and national flags, and even organizing a cricket match at the site.

Port police station officer-in-charge Abdur Rahman Mukul stated that police are working to manage the situation.
