Barisal, Aug 14 (V7N) - The General Secretary of the Barisal District Awami League, who had resigned and fled the country, has been arrested following a viral phone conversation with Sheikh Hasina. Alhaj Md. Jahangir Kabir, who also serves as the Chairman of the District Council, was apprehended early Wednesday (August 14) in Barisal.

AKM Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Barisal Sadar Police Station, confirmed the arrest, stating that a police team from Dhaka conducted the operation. Jahangir Kabir is suspected to have been detained for allegedly inciting disorder and conspiring against the government following his call with Sheikh Hasina. However, the exact details of the arrest remain unclear.

Earlier, on Monday (August 12), Jahangir Kabir had a phone conversation with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During their three-minute exchange, Sheikh Hasina urged Kabir to maintain discipline within the party and ensure proper observance of National Mourning Day on August 15.

Kabir reassured Sheikh Hasina, saying, "Sister, don't worry," suggesting that if she lost confidence, it would weaken their position. He emphasized their strength and resolve. Sheikh Hasina responded, "Why should I worry? I am not afraid. Look at how our police have been attacked and our workers beaten, even those in burqas. This country was won through sacrifice. You continue as you are."
