Pabna, Sep 25 (V7N)- Prof. Dr. SM Abdul Awal has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST). He assumed office on Wednesday morning, accompanied by deans, departmental chairpersons, and senior officials of the university.

Dr. Awal, previously a professor at Khulna University's Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering discipline, was appointed as Vice-Chancellor for a four-year term on September 23. During his inauguration, he expressed his commitment to prioritizing students' development and enhancing employment-oriented education and student facilities.

"Students will be the most important to us. We aim to build a discrimination-free university in line with the vision of a new Bangladesh," said Dr. Awal. He emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the martyrs and the injured in the anti-discrimination movement, stating that only by honoring their legacy can a new, united Bangladesh be achieved.

The Vice-Chancellor outlined his vision for a tolerant and collaborative university environment, encouraging all to work together for the institution’s growth. He expressed his ambition to position PUST as a leading educational institution at both national and international levels, highlighting the need for long-term planning and self-sufficiency.

Dr. Awal also paid tribute to the martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement and pledged to support the injured students, including providing medical assistance. He expressed his desire to showcase Pabna's rich heritage globally through the university.

Following his inauguration, Dr. Awal participated in a prayer session at the university's central mosque, offering prayers for the souls of the martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement.

The new Vice-Chancellor's appointment is seen as a step towards the continued development and progress of PUST, fostering an inclusive and dynamic academic community.
