Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N): The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) administration has announced that students are prohibited from affiliating with any political party. This decision was disclosed in a notification issued on Saturday, signed by the university's registrar, Professor Dr Mohammad Forkan Uddin.

The university explained that this policy is aimed at improving educational standards, ensuring fair merit assessment, and boosting Buet's global reputation. The decision to limit political involvement is based on Article 16 of the Buet Ordinance, as well as resolutions from the 503rd emergency meeting of the Academic Council of the Board of Residence and Discipline.

The notification clearly states that no student may engage with political parties or organizations outside of officially approved university clubs or societies. Students must strictly follow university regulations, and any breach will result in disciplinary action as specified in the ordinance.

This announcement follows a decision made on September 25, when Buet authorities revoked the hall seat allotments of several students accused of being involved in Chhatra League politics. The move was in response to ongoing student protests.
