Tangail, Nov 11 (V7N)– Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) celebrated International Accounting Day with a vibrant procession and an insightful seminar, organized by the Department of Accounting. The event, held on Sunday at 10 a.m., marked the annual observance that recognizes the crucial role of accountants worldwide.
The celebration began with a lively procession on campus, inaugurated by MBSTU Vice-Chancellor Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand. Joining the procession were university leaders, including the director of the student welfare and counseling center, the university proctor, department heads, faculty members, and students.
Following the procession, a seminar titled *"Corruption Perceptions and Theory Development: A Journey from Sociology to Accounting and Auditing"* took place in the seminar hall of the university's third academic building. Professor Kazi Saidul Islam from Central Queensland University, Australia, presented the keynote address, delving into the interdisciplinary connections between sociology and accounting.
International Accounting Day is globally celebrated on November 10, commemorating Italian mathematician Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli’s seminal work *Summa de Arithmetica, Geometria, Proportioni et Proportionalita*, published in 1494. Pacioli’s text was the first to introduce double-entry bookkeeping, a fundamental system in modern accounting.
This day aims to promote the profession, underscore the importance of accounting work, and inspire young people to consider a career in accounting. The inaugural celebration of International Accounting Day was held in 1972 by the San Diego Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
MBSTU’s commemoration serves as part of a global effort to raise awareness of the field’s contributions to business and society, while encouraging students to recognize the career opportunities it presents.
