Kushtia, Dec 14 (V7N)- The Islamic University (IU) authorities observed Martyred Intellectuals Day on Saturday with deep respect and various programs to honor the intellectuals killed by the Pakistani occupation forces during the final days of the Liberation War in 1971.
The observance began at 10 am with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah hoisting the national flag at half-mast and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yakub Ali raising a black flag in front of the university’s administrative building.
IU authorities, along with various faculties, departments, residential halls, councils, student organizations, and socio-cultural groups, placed floral wreaths at the university’s memorial monument in memory of the martyrs.
Following the tribute, a rally was organized, led by the Vice-Chancellor. Teachers, officials, students, and employees participated in the march, which started from the administrative building and culminated at the memorial monument after passing through the campus.
Earlier in the morning, the provosts of all residential halls hoisted the national flag at half-mast alongside black flags atop their respective halls.
On Friday, the university organized a Quran recitation and special prayers at the central mosque, seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of the intellectual martyrs and the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation's liberation.
IU’s observance of Martyred Intellectuals Day highlighted the university community’s collective commitment to remembering the martyrs' sacrifices and preserving the spirit of independence and patriotism.
