Dhaka, Aug 27 (V7N) - A delegation of Japanese teachers and educators recently visited Bangladesh to gain firsthand experience of its education system and socio-economic environment, as part of a JICA-organized international training program.
On August 5 and 13, a group of Japanese educators participated in the “Overseas Training for Teachers” program in Bangladesh, hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The initiative aimed to deepen their understanding of education in a developing country and to promote global awareness through cross-cultural learning.
During their visit, the participants explored a diverse range of institutions including government and international schools, NGO-run education centers, the University of Dhaka, the Directorate of Primary Education, a Primary Teachers’ Training Institute, and Kumon learning centers. The program exposed them to different educational practices and challenges in Bangladesh, offering insights into the dynamics of international cooperation in education.
The educators noted the warmth and hospitality they experienced throughout their stay. "The experience really inspired us, and we hope to design classes that help our students in Japan appreciate cultural diversity and expand their horizons,” said one of the visiting teachers.
The program is part of a broader year-long training initiative launched 40 years ago by JICA, which includes pre-departure and post-training activities in Japan. It encourages Japanese educators to apply what they learn abroad in their own classrooms by developing teaching materials and reporting on their activities.
Some participants expressed interest in further strengthening Japan-Bangladesh ties through educational exchange and collaborative initiatives.
Through such efforts, JICA aims to empower teachers as catalysts for development education and nurture globally conscious students who can connect classroom learning to real-world global challenges.
