Chittagong, Aug 31 (V7N) – The Hathazari Upazila administration has imposed Section 144 to restore law and order following clashes between Chittagong University (CU) students and local residents in Hathazari.

According to the order, Section 144 will remain in effect from 3 pm on Sunday until 3 pm on Monday in the Hathazari municipality area and within a 10-kilometer radius of Chittagong University.

The administration took the decision after tensions escalated in the 2nd Gate area of the university on Sunday afternoon. Several people, including the university proctor, were reportedly injured in earlier confrontations between students and locals. In response to the unrest, authorities have suspended all exams until further notice.

Eyewitnesses said the clashes began around 11:30 pm when a female student of the philosophy department, living in a rented house near the 2nd Gate, had an argument with the doorman about entering the house. This incident quickly escalated, leading to violent confrontations between university students and local residents.

The administration has urged residents and students to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent further unrest.
