Dhaka, Sept 9 (V7N) – The 38th Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election is set to be held on Tuesday, with voting scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This much-anticipated election involves a total of 39,874 registered voters, including 20,915 male and 18,959 female students, casting ballots for 41 positions — 28 in the central union and 13 in the hall unions.
 
Voting will take place through a six-page Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) ballot system, with counting to be conducted using 14 machines across eight centers. Results will be announced at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. The central election features 471 candidates, while 1,035 students are competing for posts in 18 hall unions. Political student bodies including Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal, Islami Chatra Shibir, Chatra Odhikar Parishad, Islami Chatra Andolon, left-leaning alliances, as well as independent panels, are contesting this year. A significant number of female candidates are also vying for key posts, including VP and GS positions.
 
According to the Dhaka University administration, a total of 810 booths have been prepared, with stringent security measures in place. The voter distribution across halls highlights Rokeya Hall as the largest, with 5,665 voters, followed by Shamsunnahar Hall with 4,096. Other major halls include Jagannath Hall with 2,225 voters and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall with 2,645.
 
In the central Ducsu race, 45 candidates are running for vice president (VP), 19 for general secretary (GS), and 25 for assistant general secretary (AGS). Other posts include secretaries for cultural affairs, sports, science and technology, social welfare, career development, environment and health, and human rights. The hall unions collectively add 234 posts across 18 halls, contested by more than a thousand candidates.
 
Among the prominent contenders, student panels supported by BNP, Jamaat, Chatra Odhikar Parishad, Islami Chatra Andolon, leftist groups, and independents are expected to make the competition intense. Several independent candidates, including Umama Fatema and Shamim Hossain, have also drawn attention for their campaigns.
 
With extensive participation from different organizations and independent groups, today’s Ducsu election is being seen as a reflection of the diverse student politics at Dhaka University. The university administration has ensured modernized ballot counting, strict monitoring, and enhanced security to prevent irregularities and to conduct the election smoothly.
