Dhaka, Sept 9 (V7N) – The 38th election of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) began on Tuesday morning, with voting starting at 8 a.m. Earlier, in the presence of candidates’ polling agents and journalists, ballot boxes were opened and sealed to ensure transparency.
At around 7:30 a.m., eight polling centers officially sealed their ballot boxes after showing them empty to all present. At the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, Chief Returning Officer Professor Golam Rabbani sealed both central and hall parliament ballot boxes. He stated that the larger box was designated for the central parliament and the smaller one for the hall parliament. The boxes will be opened again in the presence of all during the vote count after polling ends.
Students of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, and Sir A.F. Rahman Hall are voting at the Senate Bhaban center.
According to the university, a total of 39,874 students are eligible to vote in this election, including 18,959 female and 20,915 male students. For the central parliament, 471 candidates are contesting 28 posts—409 men and 62 women. Additionally, 1,035 candidates are competing for 234 positions across 18 halls. Of these, 850 candidates are from 13 male halls and 185 candidates from 5 female halls. Each voter will cast ballots for 41 positions in total, using OMR forms across a six-page ballot paper. Results will be counted at eight centers using 14 counting machines, with announcements to be made at the Senate Bhaban.

The contest features candidates from student wings of major political parties including Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal, Islami Chatra Shibir, Chatra Odhikar Parishad, Islami Chhatra Andolon, left-wing alliances, as well as several independent panels. This year, a notable number of women are contesting key positions such as Vice President (VP) and General Secretary (GS), marking an important step toward inclusivity in student politics at Dhaka University.
