Dhaka, Sept 9 (V7N) – Dhaka University administration has announced the closure of all classes and examinations on Wednesday following the ongoing vote-counting process of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall elections. The announcement was made through a press release from the university’s public relations office on Tuesday night.
Voting for DUCSU and hall elections began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and continued peacefully until 4 p.m. Observers noted that the elections were conducted in a largely calm environment throughout the day. However, tension has risen on campus since the evening as students and political group supporters gathered around the vote-counting centers.
Eyewitnesses reported that activists and leaders from the BNP, Jamaat, and affiliated student organizations began assembling on campus after the polls closed, prompting the deployment of additional law enforcement personnel to maintain order.
University officials stated that the suspension of classes and exams is a precautionary measure to ensure student safety amid heightened tensions and to allow law enforcement to manage any potential unrest effectively.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the vote-counting process progresses.
