Savar, Sept 13 (V7N) – Abdur Rashid Jitu has been elected Vice President (VP) of Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), securing 3,334 votes. Jitu, a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, contested the election from the Independent Student Alliance panel.
His closest rival, Arif Ullah, received 2,392 votes. Arif contested as a candidate from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed United Student Coalition.Meanwhile, results for the General Secretary (GS) post have also been announced, with the winning candidate declared by the election commission.
The JUCSU election drew significant attention as it marked a competitive contest among diverse student groups, highlighting both independent and politically affiliated panels.
A total of 11,743 students were registered to vote.
Voter turnout was approximately 67–68%.
Voting took place across 21 residential halls of the university.
A total of 177 candidates contested 25 posts in the central union election.
For the VP post, there were 9 candidates; for GS, there were 8 candidates.
Vote counting took about 40 hours, beginning late Thursday and concluding Saturday afternoon at the Senate Hall.
