Dhaka, Sep 22 (V7N) – Abidul Islam Khan, the defeated vice-president candidate of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) backed by Chhatra Dal, has alleged widespread irregularities in the recently held elections. He accused the university administration of deliberately delaying action despite a written complaint.
At a press conference held at Madhur Canteen around 11 am on Monday, Abidul claimed that the polls were marred by “various frauds.”
He alleged that ballot papers used in the elections had no serial numbers, and the number of printed, used, and unused ballot papers was never disclosed.
In his written complaint, the student leader further stated that polling officers, unfamiliar with electoral codes of conduct, misled journalists with false information and harassed Chhatra Dal candidates. He also claimed that outsiders were able to enter the campus with the help of BNCC, Rover Scouts, and Girl Guides.
Abidul raised suspicions that multiple votes may have been cast by the same individuals, further questioning the credibility of the process.
“Chhatra Dal has stepped away from the old political culture and embraced a new one. Despite irregularities during and after the polls, our panel did not hold any protest marches or processions,” he said.
He expressed hope that the university administration would eventually “return to transparency and accountability” and conduct a proper investigation into the allegations.
