Chattogram, Oct 14 (V7N) — After a long wait of more than three decades, the Chittagong University Central Student Union (CUCSU) and Hall Union elections have finally begun, restoring the voting rights of 27,500 students. The long-anticipated polls have sparked a wave of enthusiasm and festivity across the campus.
Voting started at 9:30 am on Tuesday and will continue until 4:00 pm at the five faculty buildings of the university.
According to the Election Commission, a total of 27,517 students are eligible to vote — 16,084 male and 11,434 female students. A total of 908 candidates are contesting across both the Central Student Union and Hall Union.
In the Central Student Union, 415 candidates are competing for 26 posts, while 493 candidates are vying for positions in the Hall Unions. Among them, 48 female and 366 male candidates are contesting in the central body, with 24 candidates already elected unopposed.
For the key posts, 24 candidates are running for Vice President (VP), 22 for General Secretary (GS), and 21 for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
In the hall elections, 350 candidates from 9 male halls and one male hostel, and 123 candidates from 5 female halls are contesting.
University authorities and law enforcement agencies have taken strict security measures to ensure a peaceful and fair election atmosphere.
