Jhalokathi, Oct 30 (V7N) – Students, teachers, guardians, and residents of Shauljalia union in Kathalia upazila formed a human chain and staged a demonstration on Thursday morning, demanding the removal of a road being built through the shared playground of Shauljalia High School and the 52 No. Shauljalia Government Primary School. The protest began at 11 a.m. in front of the schools.
Following the human chain, participants held a rally expressing concern over the safety of students and the impact of the road on the learning environment.

Speakers said Shauljalia High School was established in 1962 and currently has 262 students, while the 52 No. Shauljalia Government Primary School, established in 1907, has 126 students. Together, the two institutions serve around 400 students who share a single playground. The protesters claimed that the new road, which cuts through the middle of the playground, poses a serious safety risk to the students, as frequent accidents occur in the area.
They urged authorities to reroute the road behind the school buildings to ensure students’ safety and preserve the integrity of the school premises.
During the demonstration, students Sumaiya Akter, Farzana Mim, Al Rafi, and Mashrafee Mortuza spoke alongside Shauljalia Government Primary School Head Teacher Md. Oliur Rahman and Mahiyuddin Kalu Mia, Joint Convener of the upazila NCP unit, among others.
