Rangamati, Dec 10 (V7N) – Amidst the unique beauty and diverse culture of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) is gradually establishing itself as a premier center for higher education. With its own land, modern infrastructure, and steady academic progress, the university is now opening new horizons as the first public university in the hilly region.
Founded in 2001, RMSTU began academic activities in a temporary campus in 2015. Overcoming initial limitations, the university now operates on a 64-acre permanent, environmentally friendly campus. Full operations at the permanent campus commenced on September 30, 2019.
The campus currently houses two academic buildings, two administrative buildings, a central library, a modern administration block, a cafeteria, its own transport facilities, and a Victory Memorial commemorating the nation’s patriotic spirit. Construction of four additional buildings is underway, carefully planned to minimize environmental impact, according to the project director, Abdul Gafur. He expressed confidence that RMSTU will soon be established as a high-standard higher education institution.
RMSTU currently offers programs in five departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Management, Forestry and Environmental Science, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Fisheries and Marine Resources Technology. Approximately 1,100 students are enrolled, and there is optimism that the introduction of new departments will expand educational opportunities further.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, noted that pending approval from the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, five additional departments are expected to be launched, further enriching the university’s academic scope.
With infrastructural development, academic expansion, and a student-friendly environment, RMSTU is steadily becoming the intellectual beacon of higher education in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, lighting the path for future generations.
