Dhaka, Feb 07 (V7N) — Popular actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon and actress Sohana Saba have been released to their families after being questioned by police regarding alleged anti-state activities.
Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Department, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed their release on Friday afternoon.
According to police sources, Shaon's name surfaced among attendees of a meeting held at Hotel Park in Kolkata on January 15, both in person and virtually. Since then, she had been under intelligence surveillance.
On Thursday evening (February 6), the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police reportedly took Shaon into custody from her residence in Dhanmondi. She was transported to the DB office on Minto Road in a microbus.
The same night, a group of local students and a mob reportedly set fire to her house near Narundi Railway in Jamalpur.
Meanwhile, Sohana Saba was arrested from Dhanmondi around 12:30 am and taken to the DB office for questioning. DB sources claim she was also under surveillance for alleged involvement in a conspiracy against the state.
Following interrogation, both actresses were released. Authorities have yet to disclose further details regarding the investigation.
