New York, Dec 17, (V7N) – Kazi Harun Ur Rashid, a prominent Bangladeshi expatriate living in the United States, known as Babul Kazi Member, has passed away at the age of 70 while performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia. He died on Monday, December 16, at 3:56 PM local time at Al Noor Specialized Hospital in Makkah. (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un)
According to family sources, Babul Kazi had traveled from the United States to his ancestral home in Madhabpur, Bangladesh, on November 26. After spending some time with his family, he went to perform Umrah on December 09 with his wife and eldest son, Mohammad Murad. After completing the Umrah rituals on December 16, he suddenly fell ill and was quickly taken to Al Noor Specialized Hospital. Despite medical treatment, he passed away during his stay at the hospital.
His son, Mohammad Murad, confirmed his father's death to Voice7 News over the phone. He shared that, following family discussions, Babul Kazi's funeral prayers would take place at the Masjid al-Haram, and he would be buried in Jannat al-Mu'alla, the burial site of many notable figures in Islam.
Babul Kazi had been living in Queens, New York, with his family for over a decade. He leaves behind his wife, three sons, two daughters, and numerous well-wishers. Originally from the village of Andiura in the Madhabpur Upazila of Habiganj District, his death has saddened not only his family and community in the United States but also his home country, where many have expressed their condolences via social media.
The expatriate community in New York, particularly those from the Madhabpur area, mourn the loss of a respected community leader. Many have offered prayers for his soul, saying, "May Allah forgive him and grant him Jannat al-Firdaus." Babul Kazi’s life as a member of the local government and his dedication to his community made him a beloved figure both in Bangladesh and the United States. His passing has left a deep void in both places, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
