Islamabad, Dec 17, (V7N) - The Victory Day of Bangladesh was celebrated with great enthusiasm and due dignity in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad.
On Monday, the Bangladesh High Commission organized a colorful event to mark the occasion. All the staff members of the High Commission, expatriate Bangladeshis, and their families participated in the celebrations. The premises of the High Commission were decorated with Victory Day banners and posters for the occasion.
In the morning, with the presence of all the High Commission officials and staff, High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan formally raised the national flag on the premises. The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by speeches. Messages from the President, the Chief Advisor, and the Foreign Affairs Advisor were read out to mark the 53rd Victory Day. A documentary based on the significance of the day was also screened during the event.
During the discussion, Deputy High Commissioner Md. Aminul Islam Khan highlighted the historical context of various movements in Bangladesh, including the Liberation War and the significance of Victory Day.
In his speech, High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan paid deep homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War. He especially remembered the two hundred thousand mothers and sisters who were victims of violence. He also expressed deep respect for the students and citizens who were martyred or injured during the anti-discrimination movement in July-August 2024.
Reflecting on the recent anti-discrimination student movement, he emphasized the need for political reforms to build a democratic, prosperous, and equitable society, ensuring that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain. The event concluded with a special prayer for the forgiveness of the martyrs' souls and for the prosperity, progress, and well-being of the country and nation.
Additionally, to mark the occasion of Victory Day, various sports competitions and cultural programs were organized at the High Commission premises, with participation from children and youth.
