Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) — The suspension of LNG supply from the Excellarate Energy-operated terminal in Maheshkhali for three days may result in low gas pressure in some areas, exacerbating the nationwide gas crisis.

Petrobangla, the Bangladesh Oil, Gas, and Mineral Resources Corporation, announced this in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, the gas supply from the Excellarate Energy-operated terminal will be halted from 9am on Wednesday until 9am on Saturday.

During this period, 57 to 58 crore cubic feet of gas will be supplied daily from other terminals, which is 15 to 18 crore cubic feet less than the usual supply.

As a result, some areas of the country may experience low gas pressure.

In addition to local gas fields, LNG is supplied through two floating terminals in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.

Due to a supply shortfall in relation to demand, various industries and residential consumers have been facing a regular gas shortage.

One of the terminals will remain shut for three consecutive days for maintenance, which may worsen the gas shortage across the country.

The daily gas demand in the country is 380 crore cubic feet.

Of this, a maximum of 300 crore cubic feet is supplied to manage the situation.

According to Petrobangla’s daily gas production and supply report from Monday to Tuesday, 276 crore cubic feet of gas was supplied, of which 83 crore cubic feet came from LNG.

This means that the closure of one LNG terminal could reduce the supply by more than 20 crore cubic feet.

Meanwhile, Petrobangla authorities have expressed their sincere apologies to the public for the temporary inconvenience.

Gas distribution companies have also issued notices to apologize.
