Dhaka, Feb 01 (V7N) —Human rights organization Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed concern over the death of Jubo Dal leader Towhidul Islam following his detention by individuals claiming to be members of a joint force. The organization has called for an impartial investigation into the incident.

In a press release issued on Saturday, ASK’s Senior Coordinator Abu Ahmed Faizul Kabir conveyed the organization’s concerns and demanded justice.

According to the statement, Towhidul Islam, 40, a Jubo Dal leader from the Panchthubi Union of Comilla’s Adarsha Sadar Upazila, was taken from his home late at night by individuals identifying themselves as members of a joint force.

Media reports indicate that he was later found in the Gomti Bilash area near the banks of the Gomti River. He was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Citing the victim’s family and relatives, the statement mentioned that Towhidul Islam had no allegations of possessing weapons against him. He was taken from his home late at night for unknown reasons, and his family received no information despite contacting the police station.

Later, the police informed them that he had been taken to hospital, where he had passed away. Family members, upon noticing injury marks on his body, described his death as suspicious and premeditated.

ASK said that such incidents violate human rights and the rule of law. The state has a responsibility to ensure the safety of individuals in custody, and such deaths are entirely unacceptable.

The organization has called for an independent, impartial, and swift judicial investigation into the incident, ensuring that those responsible face legal consequences.

Additionally, ASK urged the authorities to take appropriate measures to provide justice and compensation to the victim’s family.

The organization further demanded effective government action and accountability to prevent all forms of extrajudicial killings.
