Dhaka, Mar 09 (V7N)-The Ministry of Defense has proposed renaming 16 sangsthas, institutions, and establishments under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Army, replacing names previously given after ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members, or individuals associated with her government.
This proposal follows a decision by the advisory council of the interim government on January 16, 2025, as a consequence of the July-August uprising of 2024.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the proposed new names are as follows:
- Bangabandhu Cantonment in Bhuapur, Tangail, will be renamed Jamuna Nibas.
- Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Hamid Cantonment in Kishoreganj will be renamed Mithamoin Cantonment.
- Sheikh Hasina Cantonment in Lebukhali, Barisal, will be renamed Barisal Cantonment.
- Sheikh Russell Cantonment in Zajira, Shariatpur, will be renamed Padma Cantonment.
- Bangabandhu Complex (with sculpture) at BMA in Bhatiari will be renamed BMA Academic Complex.
- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Battery Complex (Complex-1 and Complex-2) at AC&S, Halishahar, will be renamed Artillery Center and School.
- Mujib Regiment Artillery at Ramu Cantonment in Cox's Bazar will be renamed 1 Field Regiment Artillery.
- Bangabandhu Military Museum in Dhaka’s Bijoy Sarani will be renamed Bangladesh Military Museum.
- Bangabandhu Composite Military Farm in Charmontaz will be renamed Composite Military Farm.
- Bangabandhu Museum in Dhaka Cantonment will be renamed Independence Museum.
- Bangabandhu Cantonment Public School and College in Bhuapur, Tangail, will be renamed Jamuna Cantonment Public School and College.
- Sheikh Russell Cantonment Public School and College in Narayanganj’s Jolshiri will be renamed Adamjee Cantonment Public School and College, Jolshiri.
- Sheikh Russell Cantonment Public School and College in Zajira, Shariatpur, will be renamed Padma Cantonment Public School and College.
- Sheikh Hasina Cantonment Public School and College in Lebukhali, Barisal, will be renamed Barisal Cantonment Public School and College.
- Sheikh Kamal Complex (with sculpture) in Chittagong Cantonment will be renamed EBRC Academy Complex.
- Mujib Battery Road in Chittagong's Halishahar will be renamed Golondaj Road.
